Kitchen wrapping applies architectural vinyl film to existing cupboard doors, drawer fronts and suitable panels. It changes the colour and finish while keeping the cupboard structure and layout. Selected counters and appliances can also be wrapped after assessment.
This guide explains kitchen wrapping prices, which surfaces are suitable, how installation works and what to expect from the finish. We install in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Rustenburg, and in Durban and KZN.
Is kitchen wrapping worth it?
Wrapping is worth considering when the layout works, the cupboards are structurally sound and you want a different finish. Replacement may be a better choice for widespread water damage, failing boards or a layout that needs changing. Compare the same scope when weighing wrapping against painting or replacement.
A full renovation changes the structure and layout; a respray changes the painted finish. Wrapping keeps sound cupboards in place and offers wood, stone and solid-colour finishes. Compare quotes for the same surfaces, preparation and scope.

How much does kitchen wrapping cost?
Kitchen cupboard wrapping starts from around R400 per door, supplied and installed. Kitchen quotes from R17 000 to R25 000. Larger or more complex kitchens can cost more; surface area, preparation, film choice and travel affect your quote.
The R400 door starting price is for an individual door, not a whole-kitchen package. Your quote confirms whether drawer fronts, exposed side panels, plinths, counters, splashbacks and travel are included.
The film you choose changes the price too. On the same kitchen, Metamark MiA comes in about 13 to 20% below Cover Styl, and the Cover Styl Eco Range about 16 to 23% below. Our comparison of the three films explains what you give up for the saving.
What affects the final kitchen-wrap quote?
- Number and size of doors, drawer fronts and exposed panels : more surface area is simply more film and more labour.
- Surface condition and necessary repair/preparation : chipped edges, old peeling laminate or water-softened board need fixing before film goes on, and that adds time.
- Whether counters, splashbacks, appliances or an island are included : each is quoted on its own, since they wrap differently to cupboard doors.
- Chosen film and finish: material prices vary by range; pattern direction and matching can affect film use and installation time.
- Location and site access: travel, parking and estate or building access requirements can affect the quote and schedule.
Cover Styl describes savings of 50 to 70% compared with a traditional renovation. This is the manufacturer's comparison, not a guaranteed saving on every kitchen. Your saving depends on the scope and the replacement quote you compare it with.

Can your kitchen cupboards be wrapped?
Cupboards need a stable, dry surface that can hold the film. A door can look dated and still be suitable, but wrapping will not repair a weak or swollen board.
Usually suitable
- Sound cupboard doors and drawer fronts: check that the boards are dry, stable and free of loose surface layers. Hinges and alignment can need separate attention.
- Smooth panels, plinths and selected splashbacks: adhesion and exposure to water or heat need checking.
- A kitchen with a layout you're happy with, just a dated finish : wrapping changes colour and texture, not the floor plan.
- Laminate, melamine, MDF, wood or similar stable surfaces : we confirm the exact substrate on assessment, since prep differs slightly by material.
Not suitable without repair or replacement first
- Swollen chipboard/MDF : film can't fix a substrate that's already lost its shape.
- Water damage : any softness or staining needs to be dried out and repaired before film will hold.
- Failing laminate or loose structural components : loose hinges or lifting laminate need fixing first, not covering over.
- Constant wet exposure, e.g. directly behind a tap with no splashback : ongoing moisture will eventually undermine any film.
- A kitchen that actually needs a layout, plumbing or electrical redesign : that's a renovation project, not a wrap.

What can be wrapped?
Common options include the following surfaces, subject to assessment:
- Cabinet doors & drawer fronts : often the main part of the project, and the transformation homeowners notice first since these are the most-handled, most visible surfaces in the room.
- Cabinet side panels : worth adding if the sides are visible from the room and the new finish would otherwise stop abruptly at the edge of a door.
- Selected countertops and splashbacks : assessed and quoted individually, since suitability depends on heat exposure, edge condition, water exposure and the material underneath. Not every countertop is a good candidate; we'll tell you honestly if yours isn't.
- Appliances such as fridges and dishwashers : a practical way to make mismatched appliances (a white fridge next to a black dishwasher, for example) look like a single coordinated set, without replacing either.
- Kitchen islands : often finished in a contrasting colour or texture to the rest of the kitchen, since an island is usually the room's natural focal point.
What we don't wrap: stovetops, oven fronts, and anywhere that sees direct heat above the film's rating, or surfaces that are structurally damaged, rotting or heavily textured (deep carvings, exposed brick). We'll flag these on assessment rather than wrap over a problem and let it fail later.
What finishes are available?
Choose a finish for both its appearance and where it will be used. Texture, cleaning requirements and scratch resistance vary by product.
- Wood-look finishes : a range of tones from pale, Scandinavian-style oak through to darker walnut, for a warmer look without real wood's maintenance.
- Stone and marble-look finishes : popular for countertops and splashbacks, giving a high-end look at a fraction of the weight and cost of real stone.
- Solid colours: compare physical samples for colour, texture, fingerprints and the care requirements of the selected finish.
- Metallic finishes : used more sparingly, typically on an island or a set of appliances, for a contemporary accent.
We bring physical samples to your assessment so you can see and feel the finish against your own cabinetry and countertops, in your own kitchen's lighting, before committing to anything.

How long does it take?
Allow around a week for a typical kitchen, including preparation. Smaller jobs may take less time; repairs and additional surfaces can extend the work. Your installation schedule is confirmed after assessment.
The work follows a practical sequence: assess and prepare the surfaces, apply the selected film, refit any removed hardware and inspect the finish. Preparation requirements vary from kitchen to kitchen.
Preparation can produce dust, especially where sanding or repairs are needed. Access to cupboards, counters and appliances may be limited while we work. We agree the work areas and daily access with you before installation.
Wrapping retains suitable existing cupboards, avoiding the demolition and replacement involved in a full renovation. We confirm timing after assessing your kitchen.
How long does kitchen wrapping last?
Lifespan depends on the selected film, the underlying surface, installation and daily use. Manufacturer durability guidance and warranty cover are different: a warranty covers specified defects under stated conditions.
- For Durban and coastal kitchens, Cover Styl says most of its films resist moisture, with range-specific recommendations and edge sealing where needed. Surface preparation and the product choice must suit the exposure to water and heat.
Cover Styl lists a 10-year manufacturer warranty and durability exceeding 10 years for its PVC, HR and PET ranges. Other ranges have different terms. Warranty eligibility depends on the product, substrate, installation and care requirements; we confirm the applicable written terms for your selected film.
For a coastal kitchen, we assess moisture, heat exposure and the condition of edges before recommending a finish. Follow the selected product's care guidance and avoid placing hot pans directly on wrapped surfaces.
Clean with a soft cloth and water, using a pH-neutral cleaner where needed. Follow the selected film's care instructions, avoid abrasive scrubbers and protect wrapped surfaces from hot cookware.
Why choose Brandy and Co
Brandy and Co Media has been doing vehicle branding and wraps in Durban and KZN for over 15 years. Kitchen and architectural film wrapping is led personally by Brandon, who has over 4 years of hands-on experience installing kitchen and architectural film specifically : the skillset carries directly across from vehicle wrap film to kitchen surfaces.
The before-and-after photos above show a kitchen that felt too dark and received little natural light. We wrapped the cupboard doors and selected carcass interiors in Cover Styl NE77, keeping some original dark elements for contrast. The kitchen wrap cost R19 000. The customer supplied the splashback material, which we installed at no additional charge for this project.

Send photos first so we can assess the likely scope. An on-site assessment confirms measurements, surface condition and your finish selection before the final quote.
Coverstyl, whose film we install, backs their material with their own manufacturer warranty. Ask us for the current written terms during your assessment.
How do I get a real quote?
- Send photos of your kitchen : clear shots of your cupboards, drawers and any surfaces you're considering. We'll give you a preliminary estimate and tell you upfront if anything needs repair first.
- In-home assessment : we measure precisely, check the condition of every surface you want wrapped, and bring physical finish samples so you can see them in your own lighting.
- Design selection : pick your finish against your own countertops and cabinetry, not a photo on a screen.
- Book your project : once the scope and finish are approved, we'll confirm the next suitable installation window and what to expect on each day.
